Listening during a Zoom, Teams or Meet call

Hear the translation alongside an online meeting without the two talking over each other.

2 min read

When the meeting itself is in another language, attendees open the listener link next to the call. The original and the translation then play at the same time, so a little setup helps.

  1. 1Open the listener link on your phone (easiest), or in a new browser tab on the computer you use for the call.
  2. 2Choose your language and tap Enable audio.
  3. 3Turn the meeting's own volume down, or wear one earbud for the meeting and one for the translation.
  4. 4On a computer with Chrome or Edge, tap Pop out: a small captions window stays on top of the meeting.

Tip

Keep the page open

With audio on, the translation keeps playing when you switch back to the meeting window or lock your phone. Closing the page stops it.

Important

Expect a short delay

The translation follows the speaker by a few seconds. That is normal: each sentence is heard, translated and voiced before it reaches you.

Advanced — Rather choose the language inside Zoom or Teams?

Organisers can feed the translation into the meeting's own interpretation channels, so attendees need nothing but the meeting. See “Dubbing a Zoom or Teams meeting through interpretation channels”.
